Mr. King is a civil and criminal lawyer with over 30 years of experience practicing in various State courts in and around Hillsborough County. He has been recognized by Judges and other Lawyers of The Florida Bar as an “AV” Preeminent Lawyer in his fields of practice, the highest rating possible. Mr. King’s primary areas of practice include Personal Injury, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Premises Liability, and Criminal Misdemeanors and Felonies.

Mr. King is a native Floridian having grown up in the Tampa area. Mr. King graduated from Tampa Jesuit High School in 1981 before attending Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He obtained both a Business Degree in Marketing (B.S.B.A. 1985) and a Law Degree (J .D. 1988) from the University of Florida School of Law where he was recognized for his Honors in Legal Research and Writing as a first year Law Student (1985).

Mr. King began his professional career as a Certified Legal Intern with the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office in 1987 while still enrolled as a 2nd year Law Student at the University of Florida. This certification allowed him to practice Law in the Criminal Courts while still a law student. Upon graduation in 1988, Mr. King continued his work at the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office as a full time Assistant State Attorney under State Attorney, Bill James. During his four year tenure with the State Attorney’s Office, Mr. King attained the positions of Misdemeanor Division Chief, Juvenile Division Chief, Felony Career Criminal Prosecutor and, ultimately, as a Lead Trial Attorney where he prosecuted the most difficult and heinous cases. Mr. King’s extensive work as a Prosecutor gave him considerable trial experience as well as a unique insight into his current Criminal Defense practice.

After leaving the government sector, Mr. King began his private civil practice in 1992 with Smith, Williams and Bowles, P.A. where he earned Partner status with the Firm. Mr. King’s area of practice during that time focused on insurance defense, primarily as a defense lawyer for State Farm Insurance Company. During his over four years of representing insurance companies, Mr. King gained valuable insight into the inner workings of the insurance defense industry. In 1996, Mr. King took his insurance defense experience and “switched sides” representing injured parties.

Mr. King partnered with Curry Law Group, RA. in 1996 where he took over the firm’s personal injury practice. Over the next 25 years, Mr. King built a thriving personal injury practice, all while aggressively protecting the rights of those Plaintiffs injured in motor vehicle accidents, premises liability cases, and other general negligence claims. Mr. King has a passion and dedication for protecting victims and ensuring that such injured parties have a strong voice in opposition to the insurance companies. In order to keep the personal injury practice up-to-date with the ever changing laws, Mr. King remains involved with several professional associations including: Hillsborough County Bar Association, Brandon Bar Association, Florida Justice Association, Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers, and The Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Mr. King enjoys spending time with his wife and three children here in Brandon, Florida. Although his children are now grown adults having all followed his footsteps to the University of Florida, Mr. King remains involved in many Brandon community associations and activities.

Mr. King has a keen interest in working with kids having served as a Guardian Ad Litem in Hillsborough County Courts giving minors a voice in court proceedings.
